Scoliosis Treatment Protocol

The Scoliosis Recovery Approach (SRA)
is an effective multi-approach Non Surgical Treatment Plan designed to reduce scoliosis curvature of the spine.

Call us at (706) 548-8984 or email us if we can help answer any question you might have about testing your child or about the latest treatment approaches for this progressive disease.

How Can I Check My Child for Scoliosis?

Begin With the Following Diagnostic Tests (The Chiropractic Nine*)

1. Wall Grid

Have the child face a brick or tile (grid) wall. Stand behind, look and check the level of:
1. ear lobe
2. Shoulders
3. Hips (belt line)
4. Shoulder blades (is one protruding?)

2. Plumb Line

Suspend a weighted string in the center of an open doorway. Align cleft of the buttocks with the string, look for a side curving of shifting of the spinal groove from the string. Look for a tissue fold at the waist line on one side.

3. Fingers to the Floor

With the arms relaxed and the palms of the hands against the thighs, measure the distances from the longest finger tips to the floor on both sides.

4. Twin Scales

Place two equal bath scales close together. Stand balanced with one foot centered on each scale. Maintain an erect posture. Check for equal weight on each scale.

5. Heel and Hands Balance

Have the child lie on their back with their feet near the edge of a study table, firm couch, or floor. Bring the ankles together in the midline. Check for any difference in the length of the legs (heels).
Have the child extend both arms over their heads with their palms touching over the center. Check for equal length of the arms and note any difference.

6. Forward Bend

Have the child keep their legs straight while standing with their knees locked. Bend forward as if to touch the floor. Check for a smooth curving of the back as well as the distance of the fingertips to the floor.

7. Rib Level

With the child still forward, step behind them and lay a ruler across the lower tip of their shoulder blades or the ribs of the mid-back. Check to see if the ruler is level with the floor.

8. Side Bending

Let the child bend straight to one side, sliding their hand down the outside of that leg as far as they comfortably can. Measure the distance of the hand from the floor. Repeat on the opposite side.

9. Back to Wall

Have the child back up to a flat wall or door. The head, mid-back, and hips should touch naturally. The small of the back should be no more than 2 inches from the wall. The head should touch the wall without effort.

This up-to-date approach can arrest spinal curvature progression and, most times, can actually reverse the insidious progress of the disease.

This STRS approach is different because it addresses all known aspects of the disease process. As spinal curvatures are treated, every related system that is contributory to the production of scoliosis is treated and/or "re-educated".
