Chiropractic Wellness Care

Chiropractic Works for Wellness Care in Watkinsville & Athens

Chiropractic care is widely practiced for general wellness and is one of the most holistic ways to assist the body in healing itself. Chiropractors use various techniques to help the body heal itself, including spinal correction and alignment, exercises, and nutrition.

Wellness chiropractic care can help the body function more efficiently and prevent conditions from developing before they start. Chiropractors take a holistic approach to wellness care, which means they look at the whole person, not just the symptoms. This includes considering a person’s lifestyle, diet, and stress levels. Even things as small as bad posture or sitting in one position for too long can cause spinal issues, so regular chiropractic treatment can help correct minor misalignments before they develop into bigger problems. A misaligned spine can cause issues unrelated to back pain, which is why a holistic approach is necessary for general wellbeing.

What Defines Health?

Particularly here at Chiropractic Works the way we have built our brand is centered around a three pronged approach to solving the “Health Puzzle.” Before we get too far, let’s start this conversation here with a few definitions. These first two as defined by Dorland’s Medical Dictionary:

Health (helth),  a state of optimal physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity.

Holistic Health,   a system of preventative medicine that takes into account the whole individual, his own responsibility for his well-being and the total influences— social, psychological, environmental— that affect his health, including nutrition, exercise and mental relaxation.

Third, as defined by Webster’s Dictionary:

Wellness  (wel’nis) n. The condition of being healthy or sound, especially as the result of proper diet, exercise, etc.

Now when we think about health this is a very dynamic concept, but we like to try and simplify it by thinking of it more like a continuum. On one end we have health and thriving, on the other end we have sickness and disease.

Three Types of Stress

Next we consider the things that can affect our health either positively or negatively to move the needle on that continuum either towards health and thriving or towards sickness and disease. These things are all summed up with one word as “STRESS.” However, let’s break that down a bit more. Stress can be categorized into three primary types, physical, mental, and environmental (things that can affect our bodies internal chemistry), and ALL of the types of stress can affect one another.

Physical Stress

Physical Stress

Now when we look at physical stress on the body from things like sports injuries and wear tear activities that general life presents, these things can start to affect the normal alignment of our structure (the musculoskeletal-skeletal system). This is where chiropractic care comes in. The primary thing that a chiropractor does is to help improve joint alignment and function in an effort to help keep the joints as healthy as possible. When joints are stuck out of alignment and not functioning well, they start to become arthritic. In truth, it is not pain or symptoms that chiropractors treat, it is simply the functional health of the joints. Most of the time in this effort to minimize physical stress due to misalignments, this eases the stress on the body and nervous system and then allows the body to move the needle on that continuum back towards health and thriving.
Environmental Stress

Environmental Stress

Environmental stress on the body can come from our literal external environment by things like pollutants or toxins that we may breath, and also from the types of things we put in our bodies that affect our internal environment like nutrition. So, paying attention to what we put in our bodies is extremely important and this is one of the other cornerstones of our practice in terms of trying to solve the “Health Puzzle” and that is helping people with their nutrition and lifestyle choices.
Mental Stress

Mental Stress

Lastly there is the mental/emotional or what we like to call brain health. As we look at this aspect of the “Health Puzzle” it is less about the counseling and talk therapy avenues (which are very valuable and important), but more about the physiological function of the brain and how the brain is “wired.” We understand that the brain functions on different levels of frequencies for different tasks throughout our day. There are many reasons that these frequencies can become dis regulated out of their normal abilities and this can lead to a whole host of health difficulties when the brain is not functioning at its best. One thing we know about the brain is that it has neuroplastic properties, meaning that it is moldable or trainable, sort of like a muscle. With these types of considerations we use a very sophisticated technology of QEEG Brain Maps and Neurofeedback therapy to understand what types of struggles the brain may be having and then to specifically understand how to create individualized therapy training sessions to strengthen the brain and help get those frequencies back on track to supporting brain health and function .

In our office we like to sum up this multi-faceted approach to “solving the Health Puzzle” by stressing the importance of Spinal FItness, Nutritional Fitness and Brain Fitness! See what we did there?

By taking a proactive care approach, chiropractors can help people prevent conditions from developing, rather than just treating them once they occur. Proactive wellness care helps us avoid going to the doctor for a pill to cover up your symptoms or worse yet, to treat more severe conditions resulting from poor lifestyle choices and neglect. Chiropractic care is a safe, natural way to promote wellness and prevent disease. Contact Chiropractic Works to learn more about how chiropractic care can help you achieve wellness.

Benefits of Chiropractic Care for Holistic Wellbeing

Chiropractic care for wellness has many benefits. Some of the most common are:

Restores Spine Health

Restores Spine Health

Chiropractic treatments can help restore the spine's natural curve and improve spinal health. This can help to prevent conditions like degenerative joint disease (aka-arthritis), herniated discs, sciatica, migraines, extremity pain, and pinched nerves.
Prevents Illness

Prevents Illness

By keeping the spine healthy and managing a healthy lifestyle, chiropractic care can help to prevent illness. This is because the spine houses the nervous system, which controls the body's functions. When the nervous system is functioning correctly, the body’s immune system is better able to fight off infection and diseases.
Relieves Pain

Relieves Pain

The beauty here is that we are not trying to “treat pain or symptoms.” Our goal is to work at correcting the things that are interfering with your body's ability to maintain health and thrive. We are trying to work at solving the root cause or source of the problem and not just mask or cover up the pain.
Improves Overall Health

Improves Overall Health

Chiropractic care can also help improve a person's overall health. When the spine is healthy, the nervous system can function properly, and the body can heal itself. Other areas that chiropractic care for wellness can positively impact are digestion, blood flow, lung capacity, heart rate, skin tone, overall mobility, and sleep wellness.

Chiropractic Care for Wellness

A chiropractor for wellness can provide a variety of treatments to help improve your health.

The First Appointment

Our wellness chiropractors will request records of your health history or have you fill out a health history form, and then perform a thorough physical exam at your first appointment. They may also order imaging or other diagnostic tests. After taking a health history and performing an exam, the wellness chiropractor will develop a personalized treatment plan. This may include spinal manipulation, exercises, nutritional advice, and lifestyle changes. Each patient’s circumstances are unique, so each chiropractic plan for wellbeing will be unique based on those circumstances.

Subsequent Appointments

The frequency and duration of treatment will depend on your condition and health goals. For example, if you are dealing with back pain, the wellness chiropractor may recommend spinal manipulation and exercises to strengthen the muscles around the spine. They may recommend nutritional modifications or supplements to help with migraines. They may also recommend general lifestyle changes to help with the process. Chiropractic care is a gentle and non-invasive way to improve your health and prevent disease. This is different from traditional medical care, which focuses on treating symptoms and conditions after they have occurred.

A great minimum recommendation is to visit your chiropractor at least once per month for general maintenance and to prevent problems. However, if you are dealing with a specific problem, you may need to visit more frequently.

Many signs indicate you may need to see a chiropractor. Here are some of the most common symptoms:

  • You’re experiencing pain in your back, neck, or joints
  • You have poor posture
  • You get headaches frequently
  • You feel stressed or anxious
  • You have difficulty sleeping
  • You’re dealing with an injury or recovery from surgery

If you are experiencing any of these signs, schedule an appointment with a doctor at Chiropractic Works.

Chiropractors help address a wide variety of issues including:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Joint pain
  • Headaches
  • Migraines
  • Scoliosis
  • Sprains and strains
  • Whiplash
  • Injuries
  • Arthritis
  • Disc problems

Remember though, these are just a few of the things we help by addressing the source of the issue, but just because your particular health issue may not seem like your average chiropractor would be able to help you with, the doctors at Chiropractic Works dive much deeper and take a more thorough and holistic approach to “solving the Health Puzzle.” The takeaway here is that whatever your health condition or issue is, our office is the best place to start the conversation. We will help you think through it with our multi-faceted approach that considers the whole person and the complexity that is the amazing human body.

One of the best ways to tell if treatment is working is to pay attention to how you feel and if you are resting better. Do you have less pain and more mobility? Are your headaches becoming less frequent? If you notice any of these changes, the treatment is working.

The duration of each session will vary depending on the individual and the conditions being addressed. Initial appointments can range from one to two hours, while subsequent appointments can be anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes.
